Policing
Our current project has been the elicitation and documentation of requirements for a new core operational policing system for a major Australian law enforcement agency.
This agency’s current core system is old, based on obsolete and expensive technologies, is not well documented, and is not adaptable to changes to meet legislative and community expectations.
This agency had attempted this project a number of times over the past fifteen years, using the services of a number of leading consultancies. All these attempts failed.
Why did they fail?
The leading consultancies focused on implementation of packaged software, rather than on bespoke application development, as the required skills and experience have been lost, and packages appear to be easier to implement. And yet, to meet core organisational requirements, bespoke software development will always get a better result, be cheaper to implement, and provide a better user experience (and satisfaction).
Our consultants were brought in for a number of reasons.
· Specialisation in software development projects (web, mobile), with skills and experience covering the entire system development life cycle.
· Expertise in the Information Analysis methodology.
· Expertise is rules engine technology.
· Focus on eliciting requirements in workshops and one-on-one sessions.
· Focus on documenting requirements using industry standard UML notation, with artefacts stored in a knowledge repository.
Spending the time to get the business requirements right, and documenting them in a format that software developers can unambiguously understand, ensures that the project will succeed. Risk is virtually eliminated, as it becomes just work.
Our success in documenting our client’s business requirements has enabled them to present a clear and unambiguous tender to the market for a new system build. A significant milestone by any measure.
If your organisation is running inefficiently on obsolete and expensive technologies, and you need the skills and expertise to replace your core business systems, then Complete 180 Solutions is the answer.
